About us

Our Story

The whole story started in 1946 when my grandmother’s family decided to repatriate to Armenia with the whole family.

Two ships from Bulgaria arrived in Batumi (Georgia) full with repatriots; many families were located in the small town Stepanavan in the North of Armenia.

For almost 10 years I spent my school summer holidays in my grandma’s house in Stepanavan. I remember my parents used to take me by the end of May and pick me up back to Yerevan at the end of August.

Who we are

The name of the hotel comes from the same Major’s canyon name where the bolshevik meetings happened. The name Major’s Canyon was a kind of mystic name for me up until all my life, while I recently discovered that locals named it Major’s Canyon because a russian major drowned there long ago.

So we imagined how the Major lived in Stepanavan, he was in love with his neigbour Anush and used to bring flowers for her. And we created the house where he lived 🙂 that’s why we call it Major’s house.

Discover what we’ve built together.

From family stories to creative journeys — Major’s House has become a home for travelers, artists, and dreamers who believe in the beauty of returning.
